Samsung Galaxy Ring review: A minimalist addition

Galaxy Ring

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Ring, a new fitness tracking device designed for minimalist health tracking. The ring seamlessly integrates with other Samsung devices, particularly the Galaxy Watch, to provide comprehensive health and fitness monitoring. The Galaxy Ring comes in a clear charging case with a USB-C connector and an LED indicator for battery level.

The ring itself is made of lightweight titanium and is available in three finishes. It features a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor, an accelerometer, and a skin temperature sensor to track various health metrics. The ring integrates with Samsung’s Health app, allowing users to assign battery-intensive tasks to either the watch or the ring for optimized battery life.

With moderate use, the ring can last up to a week on a single charge when paired with a Galaxy Watch.

Samsung’s minimalist fitness tracking device

The Galaxy Ring tracks a variety of health metrics, including sleep stages, blood oxygen levels, and daily readiness.

It can also auto-detect workouts, although it lacks a gyroscope and GPS for accurate distance-based metrics. The ring uniquely tracks skin temperature variations during sleep and integrates cycle tracking powered by Natural Cycles. While the Galaxy Ring works best within the Samsung ecosystem, it still performs well for basic health tracking on non-Samsung Android devices.

There is no subscription fee required for AI-enabled features. If you are already in the Samsung ecosystem, the Galaxy Ring is a valuable addition, complementing other devices like the Galaxy Watch with its minimalist and sophisticated design. Its comfortable fit, robust feature set, and long battery life make it a strong contender in the wearable technology market.
