Nvidia CEO addresses Blackwell chip concerns

Blackwell Concerns

Nvidia has announced changes to its Blackwell AI chips to improve production yields. The company expects to generate several billion dollars in revenue from Blackwell shipments in the fourth quarter. The modifications were necessary to enhance yield but will not affect the overall timeline.

Blackwell GPUs, made with TSMC using the 4NP process node, underwent a mask change to boost production efficiency without changing the chip’s functionality. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stressed the strong demand for both Blackwell and Hopper architecture GPUs. “Hopper demand remains strong, and the anticipation for Blackwell is incredible,” Huang said during the Q2 FY25 earnings call.

Huang mentioned that customer samples of the Blackwell architecture had already been shipped in Q2. Production ramp-ups for Blackwell will start in Q4 and continue into fiscal 2026.

Nvidia also reported record performances in other business segments.

Gaming revenue increased 16% year-over-year and 9% sequentially, driven by strong sales of GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs and game console SOCs. The company achieved its highest-ever gaming revenue in Q2 FY2025, totaling $2.880 billion.

In addition to Blackwell, Nvidia highlighted the general availability of its HGX H200 AI systems through various OEM partners, making them easily accessible for enterprise and data center customers. As Nvidia continues to innovate and meet the growing demands of AI and gaming sectors, the company is positioned for significant revenue achievements in the coming quarters.
