Microsoft is set to bring its Copilot AI features to new laptops powered by Intel and AMD’s latest chips starting in November. This expansion marks a significant step forward for the AI tools, which were previously limited to Qualcomm-powered devices. Intel has confirmed that devices featuring its new Core Ultra 200V series processors will be eligible for a free update to receive Copilot Plus PC features.

These processors boast a powerful neural processing unit (NPU) capable of delivering up to 48 tera operations per second (TOPS) for locally processed AI models and tools. Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft’s Windows and devices lead, stated, “All designs featuring Intel Core Ultra 200V series processors running the latest version of Windows will be eligible for the Copilot+ features as a free update starting in November.”

Similarly, AMD’s recently revealed Ryzen AI 300 series chips will also support the new AI capabilities. These chips feature NPUs capable of up to 50 TOPS for AI performance and offer a 16 percent faster overall performance compared to their predecessors.

Copilot+ arrives on Intel, AMD devices

The Copilot Plus features include a range of enhancements, such as a DLSS competitor that boosts frame rates in games by upscaling content, enhanced image Cocreate capabilities, improved Windows Studio Effects, and accelerated tasks in applications like DaVinci Resolve Studio through the NPU chip. Microsoft is also planning to introduce its Recall AI features to Copilot Plus PCs, which will first be available to Windows Insider testers before a broader rollout.

The first wave of Copilot+ PCs arrived in June, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chip. These devices included laptops and 2-in-1s from manufacturers like Acer, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Asus. With the upcoming update, the ecosystem of AI-enhanced personal computers is set to expand further.
