Huawei Watch D2 set for late September

Huawei Watch

Huawei is reportedly preparing to launch the Watch D2 wearable in late September. The Chinese tech giant has several products to release next month, and the second-generation blood pressure smartwatch could be one of them. According to Weibo tipster @UncleKanshan, the upcoming Huawei Watch D2 won’t launch before September 20.

The device is currently in the pre-launch testing stage and has received a medical device license, indicating more certifications could follow. Judging from Huawei’s past ‘new product release’ events, the tipster noted that the company likes holding events on Tuesdays, suggesting a possible launch conference on September 24. Huawei is reportedly in talks to host a press conference around that time.

Tipster @FixedFocus also mentioned that the company might unveil not only the triple foldable but other products next month. Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s Consumer Business Chairman, confirmed that users will be able to purchase the world’s first tri-fold handset by next month, hinting that the leaks are on the right track. As for the Watch D2, it seems poised to attract attention.

The Watch D2 is expected to mirror its predecessor in some respects. According to the medical device license, the wearable will support a wireless charging base and feature an airbag in the wristband to accurately detect systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Additional features will include pulse rate monitoring and comprehensive health-based assessments, providing precise health reports even after multiple tests.

Huawei gears up for new launches

As a second-generation device, the Huawei Watch D2 may incorporate advanced health-based technologies to improve user experience and health monitoring. The original Huawei Watch D uses fitness watch hardware to estimate changes in blood pressure from a baseline measured using a traditional blood pressure cuff.

It features a miniature version of a blood pressure cuff with an inflating strap, using multiple air sacs to provide standalone readings. The miniaturization is impressive, though the technique is industry standard. Reviews of the original Watch D noted its blood pressure accuracy as good rather than great, and it was considered bulky at 13.6mm thick with a mid-size 1.64-inch screen.

There is room for improvement in the upcoming Huawei Watch D2. The Huawei Watch D2 may have limited usefulness for U.S. buyers as it will not be sold in the States. Additionally, there is typically a gap of several months between Chinese releases and their international counterparts.

However, the original Huawei Watch D is widely available in the UK and EU, which is promising for those interested in the new model. While there’s no word yet on the pricing of the Huawei Watch D2, its predecessor, the first blood pressure smartwatch, was launched at €399. Based on this, it is reasonable to expect a similar pricing strategy for the new model, which is likely to be available in markets outside China, including Europe.

Stay tuned for more updates on the upcoming Huawei Watch D2 and other new releases anticipated in Huawei’s autumn launch event.
