Dragon Age: The Veilguard adds photo mode

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will include a photo mode when it launches on October 31. This is a first for the Dragon Age series. The photo mode will have many features.

Players can freely move the camera and adjust the tilt, focal length, and lens distortion. They can change the depth of field and use the F-Stop setting to control lighting. A vignette mode will darken the edges of the screen for a cinematic look.

Players can also adjust the bloom strength, saturation, brightness, and contrast. The photo mode lets players hide characters in the shot. “You can really curate the shot to your liking,” said director Corinne Busche.

“You might be mid-fight with a dragon, but there’s a character in the way, so you can clear them out.”

Busche said that Brenon Holmes, who worked on Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, helped add the photo mode to Dragon Age: The Veilguard. “Not only did he drive this feature, he did a lot of the work to support it,” she explained.

Photo mode features and controls

The game will let players explore new parts of the Dragon Age world. These include Arlathan Forest, Hossberg Wetlands, Minrathous, Rivain, and Treviso. Players will have a hub area called The Crossroads.

From there, they can go to different locations and do activities like talking to people, solving puzzles, and collecting lore in a Codex. The player’s base is called the Lighthouse. There, players can talk one-on-one with their companions.

Each companion gets a room to decorate as the story goes on. Companions have special abilities to help with exploring. For example, players might find ancient Elven artifacts that Bellara can use.

If the right companion is not there, players can use the Lyrium Dagger to use these abilities from the Lighthouse. Dragon Age: The Veilguard comes out on October 31 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC.
