Dr. Barry Pangrle joins Abacus Semiconductor

Dr. Barry Pangrle has joined the executive management team at Abacus Semiconductor Corporation. This move highlights the company’s focus on advancing cutting-edge technologies in computer architecture and chip design.

Dr. Pangrle has 30 years of experience in Silicon Valley. He co-founded Esperanto Tech and has worked at Nvidia, SiFive, Synopsys, and Mentor Graphics (now Siemens EDA).

He is known as an early supporter of the RISC-V instruction set architecture (ISA). Over the past 20 years, Dr. Pangrle has focused on power analysis, management, and optimization.

His work at Synopsys led to substantial revenue growth for Power Compiler and PrimePower R&D teams. He has also led design methodology and flow efforts at XStream Logic and Esperanto Technologies. Dr.

Pangrle has a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. His expertise aligns with emerging trends in the semiconductor industry, such as more efficient computing paradigms. Dr.

Pangrle believes that computing is shifting away from CPUs and towards more efficient heterogeneous compute with special-purpose accelerators directed by RISC-V CPUs.
