Creators can start publishing to Fab

Publishing to Fab

Epic Games has announced that creators can now start uploading their products to the Fab Publishing Portal ahead of the full launch of Fab.com in mid-October. Fab is a new unified marketplace for Unreal Engine and Unity, designed to consolidate the Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab Store, Quixel, and ArtStation Marketplace into a single platform. The platform aims to serve digital creators across various industries, including games, VFX, animation, simulation, design, architecture, and fashion.

Epic Games plans to expand support to more engines in the future, making Fab a one-stop destination for users to discover, buy, sell, and share assets for Unreal Engine and other platforms. Fab will feature an 88/12 revenue share model, which Epic hopes will help creators build sustainable businesses. The platform promises multi-engine, multi-platform support, offering content compatible with game engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity, among others.

It will also support dozens of digital content creation tools, including Blender, Maya, and Substance 3D. The platform will accept a wide variety of asset types, including 3D models, 2D assets for game engines, environments, audio, tools, and plugins in multiple formats. Future plans include adding support for Minecraft and Roblox assets and access to MetaHumans.

Integration with Unreal Engine and UEFN will allow creators to access Fab content directly from within the editor.

Creators can publish assets on Fab

A next-generation real-time 3D viewer will help creators inspect assets and allow publishers to present their work in real-time 3D.

Fab will also offer advanced search and discovery tools to help creators quickly find the assets they need at the right price, with various licensing options available. Epic Games has committed to AI transparency, enabling creators to control whether their assets can be used in training generative AI programs. Sellers will also be required to disclose if their products were created with generative AI.

The migration to Fab is happening in two phases. Unreal Engine Marketplace creators can start migrating their products to Fab from today by logging in with their Epic Games account. The second phase, starting in early October, will open the portal to new publishers and include a migration tool for Sketchfab users.

ArtStation Marketplace will continue to operate in its current form for now, with plans to allow creators to migrate to Fab next year. Until the end of 2024, Fab publishers will earn a 100% revenue share on sales of Fab Standard-licensed products. Epic Games is also running a launch promotion in partnership with Adobe, offering a free six-month subscription to Adobe Substance Painter and Modeler for users who publish a Fab-licensed product or make a minimum purchase of $25.

The Unreal Engine Marketplace will be phased out once Fab launches in October.
