Bluefors expands Syracuse facility for U.S. production

Bluefors facility

Bluefors has officially opened its expanded production facility in Syracuse, New York. The expansion will increase the company’s capacity to manufacture Cryomech-branded cryocoolers. It will also allow Bluefors to produce dilution refrigerators in the USA for the first time.

The expansion addresses the growing demand for cryogenic systems needed for quantum technology applications. These applications include quantum computing and sensing. The global quantum technology market is projected to have high growth.

CEO Jonas Geust said this expansion makes Bluefors the largest producer of dilution refrigerators in the United States. It reinforces the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of the quantum sector. The new facility adds over 35,000 square feet of space.

Bluefors expands U.S. production capacity

This nearly doubles the production capacity for cryocoolers. Cryocoolers are essential for maintaining the ultra-low temperatures required for quantum chips.

Bluefors has also established a spare parts hub in Syracuse. This will improve service levels and delivery times for customers in North America. The development marks a significant step in enhancing Bluefors’ operations and capabilities in the U.S. market.

Rich Dausman is the President of Bluefors’ Syracuse operations. He said, “This expansion will enable us to increase Cryomech cryocooler production here in Syracuse and continue pushing the boundaries of cryogenics. It also builds on the historic foundations that Cryomech has established, showing Bluefors’ continued commitment to the Syracuse community.”

The expansion adds more office, manufacturing, warehouse, storage, shipping, and receiving space.

It increases cryocooler testing capacity and doubles throughput. The expansion lays the groundwork for the future growth of Bluefors operations in the USA.
