Garmin announces new software update enhancements

Software Enhancements

Garmin has announced a series of free software updates for its smartwatches and cycling computers. The updates bring new features and improvements to the Epix Gen 2, Fenix 7, Forerunner, Vivoactive, and Venu 3 Series smartwatches, as well as the Edge 540, Edge 840, and Edge 1040 cycling computers. One of the most notable additions is the update to Garmin Coach.

Cyclists can now access personalized training plans through the Garmin Connect app, similar to what runners have enjoyed. These plans adapt daily based on the user’s performance, offering a tailored workout experience. For runners, Run Coach will now include more customized workout features, incorporating health metrics, running performance, and recovery data.

Garmin Connect will also allow users to share their workouts, courses, and specific locations with others through the new Garmin Share feature. This is ideal for preparing for team events or setting up friendly competitions. The Edge 540, 840, and 1040 series cycling computers will now provide road hazard alerts based on user reports.

Garmin introduces personalized trainings

This helps cyclists plan alternative routes to avoid obstacles or heavy traffic. Another highly anticipated feature is the addition of pool swim metrics.

Users can set intensity and pace targets, drill types, and adjust for different pool sizes. GroupRide aims to enhance the social aspect of rides by offering in-ride messaging between team members, live location sharing, incident detection alerts, and leaderboards for climbs. This feature builds on Garmin’s communication tools, such as Garmin Messenger, taking them a step further to foster better in-device interaction.

Users can update their compatible devices to access these features by navigating to the Garmin Connect app and selecting the ‘Devices’ page. In a separate update, Garmin has also introduced System Software 11.64 to address high battery drain issues among its latest smartwatches. The update targets two main problems: a high battery drain after activities and an issue with the naps widget displaying incorrect durations.

Users are encouraged to install the update to take advantage of these improvements.
