HPE debuts ProLiant DL145 Gen11 server

HPE has launched the ProLiant DL145 Gen11 server, a compact and powerful solution designed for edge computing. The server aims to enhance performance for demanding applications and workloads at the edge, ensuring high performance in diverse environments such as stores, clinics, banks, and factory lines. The ProLiant DL145 Gen11 offers flexibility with its compact design, allowing distributed organizations to execute edge initiatives without the complexities of deploying datacenter-oriented servers in edge locations.

The server brings processing power to small spaces, enabling onsite data processing for real-time insights and faster decision-making while reducing reliance on distant datacenters or cloud resources. Krista Satterthwaite, senior vice-president and general manager at HPE Compute, emphasized the server’s suitability for edge environments, stating, “Rugged and compact in size, with quiet acoustics and power efficiency, the DL145 puts a lot of processing power in small spaces, ensuring high performance both today and in the future as customer needs evolve.”

Powered by a fourth-generation AMD EPYC 8004 processor with up to 64 cores, the ProLiant DL145 Gen11 can handle enterprise applications swiftly and support up to 128 virtual machines. The server is a significant addition to the edge server portfolio, capable of supporting industry applications such as inventory management, pricing, point of sale, edge-specific analytics services, business intelligence, content delivery, and AI/ML workloads.

Introducing ProLiant DL145 for edge efficiency

The ProLiant DL145 Gen11 is securely deployed using HPE GreenLake for Compute Ops Management cloud-native service, which supports zero-touch deployment. These capabilities simplify the onboarding process for non-IT staff at remote locations while offering centralized IT staff automated management capabilities.

Security remains a priority, with security built into the infrastructure from the factory level, embedded in silicon, and enhanced in firmware. Additional engineering features include built-in air filtration for dusty environments, high energy efficiency, vibration-tolerant operation, and quieter performance compared to traditional datacenter servers. The ProLiant DL145 Gen11 offers a robust solution for organizations looking to optimize edge computing, bringing processing power and advanced security to diverse and distributed edge locations.

The server’s introduction signifies HPE’s broader strategy to incorporate AMD EPYC Siena processors into versatile edge computing solutions, aligning with the trend of using low-power platforms for edge deployments where power-intensive options are less practical.
