DxO PhotoLab 8 introduces advanced editing features

PhotoLab Editing

DxO has released PhotoLab 8, the latest version of its flagship photo editing software. This update focuses on improving image quality and introducing advanced editing capabilities. One of the key features is the AI-powered DeepPRIME XD2s noise reduction process.

It works by denoising and demosaicing raw file data simultaneously to provide superior results. This version is claimed to be the company’s best yet, working alongside improved lens softness algorithms to further enhance image quality. DxO’s custom-made lens correction profiles have also been upgraded.

They now not only correct distortion, corner shading, and color fringing but also address the edge softness that many lenses exhibit towards the frame’s edges. The Tone Curve panel has received a significant update with new features. These include a direct Tone Picker tool, histogram display, and Luma curve adjustments.

Users can now enter numerical input/output values directly, making it more versatile and powerful.

Advanced editing capabilities unveiled

PhotoLab 8 introduces a new Preview panel that allows users to see the DeepPRIME effects almost instantaneously at different sizes and magnification levels.

This addresses one of the known limitations of the DeepPRIME process, which is its hardware-intensive nature, making real-time display difficult. The software’s powerful U-point local adjustment and masking tools have been enhanced with a new Hue Mask option. This feature allows users to select specific hue ranges within an image and use regular masking tools to restrict the mask to precise areas or objects.

DxO also promises multiple performance enhancements and bug fixes in this latest version, ensuring a smoother and more efficient editing experience. PhotoLab 8 is available now in two versions. The Elite version costs $229 / £209, with an upgrade option at $109 / £99.

The Essential version is priced at $139 / £129, with an upgrade option for transitioning to the Elite version at $99 / £89. A 30-day free trial is available for new users who wish to try PhotoLab before committing. With its enhanced features and performance, PhotoLab 8 is set to push the boundaries of photo editing.

It aims to be a valuable tool for photographers looking to elevate their work.
